God's crazy request..

When the LORD began to speak through Hosea, the LORD said to him, "Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness, because the land is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the LORD." So he married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son. - Hosea 1:2

Okay this seems kind of crazy. Go marry an adulterous wife! In some translations it says she was a prostitute, whore, or the girl who “got around”, or some scholars believe it was a temple prostitute for another religion. To bring it to a modern time you could say she was either hooker, a stripper, a cheating woman, a “drinkie drinkie” girl, or “massage therapist.” This is not exactly the girl you want to bring home to meet the family. I know a few, and they are nice people but really, their moral compass is a little off, among other things. Imagine this request being made to you. I mean, what if God says, “Go marry a call girl, forget the Proverbs 31 woman. Go find the sluttiest girl who sleeps around for anyone, maybe even for money, and marry her and bear children with her.” The crazy thing, is that Hosea does it WITHOUT QUESTION. He does it.

Now that is what I call total obedience. Hosea follows the Lord with total obedience and with out question. Regardless, if he questioned the decision or not, Hosea followed the Lord to total obedience. Now that is something that we can learn. That is something that is awesome. To have that kind of faith in God, that even if he makes this crazy request, you do it. I know it must have pleased God emensly that Hosea did this. I cannot even comprehend doing this. But the lesson I can learn from Hosea, is to take the advice from Solomon and “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and all your mind and lean not into your own understanding...” Total trust, total obedience to God. That is what He ask me to do, so I can do some crazy things.

Lord thank you for showing me that You can ask for some crazy things, but really what You want from me is total obedience. Lord give me the guidance so I can be totally obedient to you.

When God ask you to do something crazy...

When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, “Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the Lord.” So he went and took Gomer, the daughter of Dibaim, and she conceived and bore him a son. -Hosea 1:2-3 Now this is kind of a crazy assignment. It’s not like he says go and build a church, or go preach to the people, or fast for the nation. No, God told him to go take a WHORE for a wife. It doesn’t even sound Biblical. But that is what you see, God giving a very different task. Hosea’s first assignment, marry a whore. God asked Hosea to do something crazy. But what you see here is that Hosea, he DOES IT!. Without question, he just does it, he is very obedient to God. Though it’s sort of a strange situation, I am encouraged by Hosea’s obedience. Now, I don’t know about you, if one of the first big assignments God gives me is to go out and marry a whore, not sure how I would take that.

He Provides Our REAL Needs

  Acts 3:6-8 Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. The beggar was asking for gold and silver, he was asking for things that he thought would satisfy him. But in reality it wasn’t what he really needed.  God knew that his real needs differed from what he was begging for.  In those times, if you were not capable of work, or able to walk, you were just cast away to the side.
