Light
“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.... In the same way let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
This command from the Sermon on the Mount is one of those that cannot be ignored. Well, none of them should be ignored, but this one in particular grabs me. Jesus says it let your light shine before men. Let it shine, show it off, be bright. So that they may see your good deeds and praise God. See your good deeds. The implication is that you not only got to say your are a Christian, but also you got to really live it. You got to really dig deep and follow God with all your heart and also at the same time you go to follow through with action.
Sometimes I think that I am around Christians way too much. Way too much. I long for the times where I can hang out with non Christians and just hear life with them. Also I would love to be closer to the action of the non Christian. There is where you can let your light shine. I was talking to a friend who was trying to find a way to find his wife a new job because she didn’t like working out in the “world”. I thought she had a golden opportunity to be a light in the world. With things going the way it is going. I can see the importance of bringing the light to the world. I know that I have friends and colleges to that need to see the Light of Christ, I need to make a better effort to reach out to them.
Lord thank you for sharing with me this verse. I hope that you bring more of an opportunity to reach others.
