At the Lord's Command….

Numbers 9:22-23

“Whether the cloud stayed over the tabernacle for two days or a month or a year, the Israelites would remain in camp and not set out. At the Lord’s command they encamped, and at the Lord’s command they set out. They obeyed the Lord’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses.”

It must have been tiresome doing this. I mean we just read eight chapters on how the Israelites would set up and take down each step of the tent. They did this every time God moved. Not that I would complain, but after setting up everything it would be crazy to just brea it all down again and move. But, this little statement provides such insight on what it means to be follow the Lord’s will. The Israelites would do it. When God moved, they moved. No questions asked. Following God meant that you would follow Him regardless of when or where He decides to move. To be obedient. From this you can conclude that it took obedience to follow God. It took diligence to follow God. It took the focus not on yourself, but on Him. It’s not easy following God.

Every Christian I know wants to follow God. But how many of us actually do? As for me, it is a easy thing to profess, but this is a difficult thing to do. Obeying God and following His will is not easy. There are many who will testify that when you follow the will of God you experience such great freedom. However, when you are in the time of making a decision it’s not always that easy. Sometimes the decisions are easy, sometimes they are hard. Most of the time they are difficult because like the pillar of fire or the cloud. You have no idea where you are going. All you know is that you are headed to the promise land. Where that is, only He knows. But it keeps me humble, it keeps me on my knees. It also keeps me from becoming selfish or becoming too attached to one thing. However, it takes diligence. It’s not easy. Doing things like this never is.

Lord thank you for showing me an example of following your will.
